Final Project Brainstorm Simon

Idea 1. Home Screen Portraits
Expanding on an idea I did for a speed project. I like the idea of using home screen smartphone screenshots as stand-ins for portraits. The idea of comparing them to the portrait and trying to match them is really interesting too. Ideally, I would gather as many actual pictures of people along with their home screen. I’m not sure yet how I would deliver it but I think just a set with real portraits paired with home screen portraits would be nice. I imagine it looking similar to Bill Sullivan’s More Turns in its style but instead of many actual portraits, each one would be paired with the screenshot.

Idea 2. Twitch Grows a Plant
I was thinking about doing a timelapse of a plant as an experimental still life but while I was thinking about how to present it I kept coming back to Twitch. But I thought that no one would want to just watch a plant grow, so I thought that by reclaiming channel points (which are gained by viewing) the chat could water the plant and choose to give it more or less sunlight. The stream could also feature relaxing music so that people could have it on while they do something else. The idea reminded me both of twitch streamers who stream themselves sleeping and the system that allows viewers to donate money to have the streamer do or watch something.

Idea 3. Vlog Tutorials
A vlog formatted as a tutorial where each day is a different tutorial. Uploaded onto tiktok or Instagram. I see it a way to break away from the vlog “aesthetic” that has become so formulaic.
