wikiHow: 3 Ways to Not Procrastinate with Homework

For this speed project, I had a few ideas revolving around wikiHow and how to interpret their resourceful page. I considered using making a how-to-basic-esque video following their directions to the tee with a predictably bad outcome. I also considered following a page purposely doing something bad, ie procrastinating and having some fun with that. However, I ultimately chose to do something with respect to finals coming up in a few weeks. I chose to do a how-to not procrastinate based on this wikiHow.

The wikiHow provided three methods to deal with procrastination and from each one I chose three that seemed like they could be useful.

Method 1. “Removing Distractions and Temptations”

a. “Turn off Social Media Updates”. Using Do Not Disturb works too. You probably don’t need social media to help you focus on assignments or work.

b. “Change your physical environment”. Work where you will be productive. Avoid the couch or bed.

c. “Schedule your homework sessions when you’re most efficient”. Do what works for you.

Method 2.

a. “Make your homework schedule known to those around you”. Communicating with those around you to have time undisturbed can be very beneficial.

b. “Reassure yourself”. Homework is can become grueling but you will often feel much better after getting the weight off of your chest. Things will be better.

c. “Reward yourself for any progress”. Using positive reinforcement to your benefit can be really strengthening. Give yourself a quick treat.

Method 3.

a. “Plan ahead and separate your tasks into smaller, identifiable tasks”. Approaching a large task can be daunting but breaking it up into smaller more approachable tasks can be very useful.

Using something like lifeat.io can be very useful to keep motivation up, with timed sessions and clear goals.

b. “Do the small tasks first”. Small tasks still have weight and can build momentum to building toward larger tasks

c. “Associate a timeline with your tasks”. You generally cram towards due dates so plan toward self set due dates with smaller steps.

ie. Don’t do this. Add steps with a date for each item.
