Writing Retrospective – Makoto Brown

One line taken from almost all the prose I’ve written since 2014, provided with minimal context.

They’re separated into these chronological groups:

2014-2015 (red)
2016-2017 (yellow)
2017-2018 (green)
2018-2019 (blue)
2020-2021 (purple)

Originally, I wanted to do something along the lines of a collage of album covers or video thumbnails, but I became more dissatisfied with the idea the more I thought about it. Leo’s idea got me to consider looking through my Discord messages, which I still think is a really good idea, but I felt that it overlapped too much. Later on, I came up with the idea of doing this writing retrospective, which I think is inspired by an assignment I did last semester for Visual Foundation Studio, as well as Professor Hentschker’s so sorry.

Personally, I thought it was fun to see how my writing style both has and hasn’t changed over the past eight years. You’d think it would also be super cringe, but I’m used to reading my old writing at this point (lol)
